My name is Richard. I have many happy memories of playing with wooden toys from when I was little. My father built an amazing handcrafted wooden gas station for me as a child, which increased my enthusiasm for them even more. I spent years playing with it, finding many new ways to use it besides refueling toy vehicles.
When my grown daughters were young, I witnessed firsthand how wooden toys inspired imaginative play in them.
Now, I’m the proud grandpa of a gorgeous, fun-loving and inquisitive toddler, and I can observe again how wooden toys play an essential role in her development. She can stack, push, pull, and explore them in endless ways, engaging all her senses and letting her imagination run wild. It’s thrilling to watch the next generation discover the joy of these toys.
My granddaughter’s mom (my daughter) has a psychology degree and works in early childhood education. She is passionate about learning through play and points out enthusiastically how our granddaughter’s curiosity and creativity is stimulated through open-ended wooden toys.
Unlike plastic, wooden toys feel more natural and often have versatility beyond their intended purpose, just like my old gas station did for me all those years ago.
Finding new toys that encourage my granddaughter’s curiosity and inventiveness is so enjoyable. Now, through this website, I want to pass on what I’ve learned by creating a resource that is practically minded and offers helpful suggestions and recommendations to parents, grandparents and carers who are looking for wooden educational toys to inspire their toddlers.
